UAV Lab!

The Flight Mechanics & Control Laboratory supports teaching and research in the field of flight mechanics, flight control and flight modeling and simulation. The lab is located on level B3M of the N3.2 building. The lab houses several Quanser’s control equipments: 3-DOF Helicopter, Inverted Pendulum, and Solar Tracker; and also some navigation equipment.

Changhong Fu, Research fellow

Changhong Fu was born in Hunan, China, on July 31, 1986. He received his Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Automation from Technical University of Madrid, Spain. During his Ph.D., he held two research positions at Arizona State University (ASU), USA and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. After finishing his Ph.D., he is currently working at the school of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and ST Engineering (STE)-NTU Corp Lab in the NTU as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. He has worked on 2 international, 1 national and 4 industry technology transfer projects related to the computer vision for UAVs. His research areas are Visual Tracking, Odometry, SLAM and Intelligent Control for UAV Autonomy.

Dogan Kircali, Research associate

Dogan Kircali was born in Istanbul, Turkey on April 20, 1987. He received a Bs.C degree in electronics engineering and a minor degree in computing systems from Isik University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2009. In 2013, he received a M.Sc. degree in electronics engineering from the same institution. He is an experienced RC pilot, he works with UAVs including fixedwings, helicopters, and multirotors since 2004. He is currently working at ST Engineering (STE)-NTU Corp. Lab. in Nanyang Technological University as a research associate. His research areas are robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and robotic vision.

Ran Duan, Research associate

Ran Duan was born in Sichuan, China on March 7, 1990. He received a B.Sc. degree in communication engineering from Southwest University of Science and Technology, Mianyang, China, in 2013 and a M.Sc. degree in computer vision (VIBOT/MSCV) from University of Burgundy, France, in 2015. He is currently working as a research associate in Nanyang Technological University at  ST Engineering-NTU Corp Lab. His research areas are computer vision, robotics, and optimization.

Ravindrababu Suraj, Research associate

Suraj Ravindrababu was born in Chennai, India, on 6th December 1989. He did his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Anna University of Technology, India. His M.Sc. degree was in Aerospace Engineering from a joint-degree program between TUM, Munich and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. After completing his masters, he worked as a research associate with Temasek Laboratories on the computational modeling of braided composite materials. He is currently working at the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing as a research associate on the design and manufacturing of a novel 3D printed VTOL UAV. His primary interests are in the computational modeling of materials, simulations and the practical use of finite element software especially, Abaqus.

Mohit Mehndiratta, PhD candidate

Mohit Mehndiratta was born in New Delhi, India on June 28, 1990. He received a B.Tech. degree in aerospace engineering from Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, India, in 2012. In August 2015, he received a M.Sc. degree in aerospace engineering jointly offered by Technische Universität München, Germany and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is currently a doctoral student (PhD. scholar) and pursuing his research in Nanyang Technological University at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research focus includes nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC), moving horizon estimation (MHE), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and is currently working on the design of VTOL fixed-wing UAV incorporating NMPC-MHE control framework.

Yunus Govdeli, PhD candidate

Yunus Govdeli was born in Istanbul, Turkey on September 14, 1991. He completed his double B.Sc. degree programme in mechanical engineering and aeronautical engineering at Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, in 2015. After completing his undergraduate education, he has directly started his doctoral studies and is currently a second-year Ph.D. Student in Nanyang Technological University at Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP). His research is focused on aerodynamic design, additive manufacturing, mathematical modelling and intelligent control of unmanned aerial vehicles with vertical take-off and landing capabilities (VTOL UAVs).

Andriy Sarabakha, PhD candidate

Andriy Sarabakha was born in Lviv, Ukraine, on November 16, 1986. He received a B.Sc. degree in computer engineering in 2012 from”Sapienza” – Università di Roma, Rome, Italy, as well as a M.Sc. degree in artificial intelligence and robotics in 2015 from the same university. From January 2016, he is pursuing his research in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as Ph.D. student. His research areas are unmanned aerial vehicles, artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic

Zhuowei Wong, PhD candidate

Zhuowei Wong was born in Singapore on 16 March 1990. He received his B.Sc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2015. From January 2016, he is pursuing his doctoral studies in NTU, School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, under the scholarship from Singapore Centre of 3D Printing. His research areas are focused on design, additive manufacturing and autonomous control of Vertical Takeoff Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

Efe Camci, PhD candidate

Efe Camci was born in Izmir, Turkey. He went to Izmir Ataturk High School, Izmir, Turkey. He received his B.Sc. degree in Aerospace Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He is currently pursuing his research as a Ph.D. student in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research areas are flight mechanics and control, reinforcement learning, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Nursultan Imanberdiyev, PhD candidate

Nursultan Imanberdiyev was born in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on May 16, 1991. He received a B.Sc. degree in Robotics and Mechatronics from Nazarbayev University (NU), Astana, Kazakhstan, in 2015.  He is currently pursuing his research as a Ph.D. student in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research areas are mainly focused on Robotics, Reinforcement Learning and Intelligent Control for UAV Autonomy.
